What is Baccarat Banque?

Baccarat Banque is one of the popular variants of baccarat both at land-based casinos and online.

The difference between Baccarat Banque and the other variations is that it uses only three decks of cards instead of six or eight, which is common with other variations. This game is played on two tables, hence sometimes referred to as “Baccarat à Deux Tableaux”.

The table can accommodate up to 14 players and has the banker sitting in the middle so that they split it roughly to their right and left. All bets are covered within the banker’s hand, which is then played simultaneously at both tables.

Most high rollers prefer this version of baccarat since it gives them more opportunities to win (and lose) money being the banker, than they would as players.

Baccarat Banque Rules

Baccarat Banque Rules

Baccarat Banque follows the rules of the traditional card game. At the beginning of a shoe, the player who placed the most bets becomes the banker and sits opposite the dealer.

The banker will stay the banker for the duration of the shoe or until he runs out of funds. Any opponent on the table can challenge the banker at any time, and this opponent will have up to three chances to displace the banker.

Just as with most versions of Baccarat, the player’s hand in Banque competes directly against the banker, rather than against the other players. This way the banker is able to win against both players. There are two types of betting options: one player can beat the banker, while the banker beats the remaining players, or both players can bet the banker.

If an opponent places a bet equal to that of the banker, he or she can challenge the banker at any time during the betting phase. You can do this in one bet or across both hands.

How Do You Play Baccarat Banque?

The gameplay in Banque is as easy as with the other forms of baccarat.

It starts with the dealer shuffling the cards and then passing them to the players on the right and left for reshufflement. The banker, who is the one who decides which player splits the cards with a blank card, is the last person to shuffle the cards.

The cards are dealt face down, and the player hand is controlled by the player with the highest stake.

On a specific side of the table, the players bet on the player hand to beat the banker hand. However, the banker can only place bets on his or her hand, so that he or she can bet against himself.

Following the card dealing, the banker and player in charge all check their hands. If any of them have a hand total of 8 or 9 (a natural), they win.  A total of 18 or 19 also counts as 8 or 9, as only the last digit counts when it comes to hand scoring in Baccarat.

Similar to Baccarat Chemin de Fer, if neither the player or the banker has an 8 or 9, the player can choose whether to take an additional card or not. Thereafter the dealer can decide the same as well. The hand closest to or equals 9 wins the pot.

How Do You Play Baccarat Banque

Best Baccarat Banque Strategy to Win

The best strategy for Baccarat Banque is similar to the versions of the game such as Chemin de Fer as follows:

  • Always hit when you get a total of 0 to 4.
  • Stand when you get a hand total of 6 or 7.
  • Only a hand total of 5 gives you much of a choice since a total of 8 or 9 forces you to stand.
  • The banker should hit on 0 to 5 and stand on a 7, if the player decides to stand.
