How to Play Casino Craps for Beginners

Craps is a dice gambling game, and players wager on the result of the dice roll. The game uses a pair of dice, and there are dozens of possible outcomes.

The first roll of dice is called the come-out roll. Bets are always placed before the dice roll. Before the come-out roll two main bets can be placed, Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line Bets.

The Pass Line bet wins when the dice roll result is a 2,3 or 12 and the Don’t Pass wins when the result is 7 or 11. If any other number rolls then the result is a “Point”. The point becomes a basis for all following bets.

Players can also place bets on specific numbers, they aren’t restricted to the Pass Line and Don’t Pass Line Bets.

Basic Craps Bets for Beginners

Craps has a lot of different bets. We have compiled a list of the most basic bets for beginners. There are more craps bets and you can learn more about the different bets in craps in the craps bets guide.

  • Pass Line – a bet that pays out when a 7 or 11 is rolled and loses on a result of 2, 3, or 12.
  • Don’t Pass Line – opposite of the “Pass Line”, this bet wins when a 2 or 3 rolls and loses on 7 or 11.
  • Come Bet – works like the “Pass Line” bet after a point is established, it wins on 7 or 11 after a point is set.
  • Don’t Come – this bet can only be made after the point is established, it is the opposite of a “Come” bet and also works like the “Don’t Pass” bet.
  • Place Bet – there are two kinds of place bets – Place win and lose. You bet on any number that is not 7, 11, 2, 3, or 12 to win or lose. A place win, wins if the number you choose is rolled before a 7 and a place lose, wins if a 7 rolls before the number chosen.
  • Single roll proposition bets – a bet on a number whose outcome is done in a single roll unlike the pass, don’t pass, and come and don’t come bets.
  • Field Bet – a bet on the field bet section on the table ( 2; 3; 4; 9; 10; 11; or 12)

Craps Table Layout

The craps table looks confusing to beginners, but it’s quite simple. Each side of the table is a replica of the other. The table is designed so that players on either side of the table in a casino have easy access and view of the various bets laid out on the table. The table has all the different craps bets you can place laid out. So even if you don’t know any craps bets, you can randomly choose one and place your chips on the different sections of the table.
